The power of a paint brush, a trip to HomeGoods and falling back in love with your home….

To say I’m in love with the way repainting transformed this room would be a serious understatement. I can’t help but smile every time that I walk in. The way the light filters through the windows in the morning makes me so happy.

What once felt dark, heavy and uninspiring now feels open, airy and filled with productive energy. It’s wild what a fresh coat of paint can do for a space, but also for our mental health.

This little makeover reminded me of something really important: you don’t always need to start over or move to a new house to fall in love with your home. Sometimes, it just takes one intentional update to completely shift how a room feels… and how you feel in it. There’s so much power in reclaiming a space you already have and making it feel joyful, functional, and authentically like you.

This room has worn a few hats, from my office, to gym, to catchall zone, but it’s officially stepping into its next chapter as a bright, flex space that works perfectly for me.

I couldn’t be happier that we landed on Benjamin Moore White Dove for this room. It brought exactly the kind of calming, fresh brightness I was hoping for. In fact, I love it so much that I’m already planning to carry it through our hallway, stairwell and entryway.

To keep things cohesive, I had Lee paint the walls and ceiling in a flat finish, which gave the whole space that soft, velvety glow. For the trim, we used the same color in a satin finish to give it a subtle contrast and a little extra polish without introducing a new shade. The result feels seamless, bright, and so intentional, just the kind of refresh this little room needed.

While Lee was focused on the painting, I spent some time really trying to decide how to complete this space. A few weeks ago, I spotted a pair of velvet swivel barrel chairs at HomeGoods that I could not stop thinking about. You know the kind of find that lingers in your mind way too long? That was them.

On a totally unrelated trip back (but let’s be honest, I was low key curious if they would still be there), I was shocked to see both chairs still there. It felt like a sign they were waiting for me.

I scooped one up along with the cutest little console table that would make the perfect desk. The velvet chair looked so good in our living room (its temporary home while painting was in progress) that even Lee commented how much he liked it. Long story short… he went back the next day and snagged the second one.

And just like that, our living room got a little upgrade too.

Turns out, “musical chairs” has a whole new meaning around here…

Here are a few pieces that helped me pull this little room together. Whether you’re styling a home office, flex room, or cozy corner, these are the items I hand-picked and personally love:

I can’t find the exact link to my swivel chairs, but I linked a similar option. My exact console table/desk is linked here from a site in India. Since I found them at HomeGoods it is a little harder to source the exact products…but let this be your motivation to head to your local HomeGoods and see what epic items you can find!

If there’s one thing this little room makeover reminded me, it’s that you’re allowed to change your mind.

You don’t have to get it perfect on the first try.

You can paint over the color.

You can rearrange the furniture.

You can swap the desk.

You can reinvent the space.

It’s okay to try something and realize it doesn’t work.

It’s okay to pivot.

Sometimes falling in love with your home again is just a few small changes away. So don’t be afraid to mix things up, because when a room starts to reflect who you are, it becomes a functional space that supports your well-being, style, and gives you room to breathe, think, and just be you!

And that’s always worth the redo.
